Scripture Reading : Ezekiel 26
Theme : Judgement on Tyre
Tyre gloated over the destruction of Israel because she wanted to get financial gains from the tragedy. God says whoever is glad at calamity will not go unpunished (Prov. 17:5). For Tyre’s sins, God will destroy her by sending nations in successive waves or times (v. 3). The first wave will be Babylon who conquered her. Later on, Tyre was conquered by the Persians, then the Greek, then the Romans, and finally after the Saracens in the fourteenth century a.d., Tyre never again regained any importance. Her destruction is lamented by people who depend on her for commerce (vv. 17-18); it is similar to the lament in Revelation 18:19-20.
